Today is the last day of 2020. And all the things that happened this year are summed up here in this blog. This is 2020 in a Nutshell & Happy New Year’s Eve to everyone.

It has already started in 2019 due to prolonged droughts the bushfire spreads very quickly and in a vast area. A state of emergency was declared in Queensland and New South Wales in November 2019. The bushfires burned more than 46 million acres, at least 5,900 homes and buildings were lost, thousands of tropical animals have died, at least 400 people were killed due to the residual smoke inhalation.

As of 31st December, the number of confirmed cases is 81,159,096 and the number of deaths is 1,791,246 Worldwide. It affects the world economy badly and peoples are still suffering from this virus. And also a new Coronavirus strain found on 21st December 2020 in the UK.

The tension between Iraq & the US is always there but this time it takes a scary move. US airstrike in Baghdad has been killed a number of Iranians and Iran’s top commander, Gen. Qasem Soleimani. His death amplified the tensions between Iran and the US. Not only that crude oil price has increased, but cyberattacks against the US also increased gradually.

Millions of desert locusts have destroyed corps in Rajasthan, Gujarat, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh. It started from East Africa and they have traveled towards India. The effects of the Locust Attack are brutal. It happened after 2 decades.

There are lots of active volcanos in the Philippines. On 12th January 2020, Taal Volcano started spewing ash & Lava, at end of that night as a result 3,00,000 people evacuated by the authorities. Many houses, farms were damaged by ashes, habitat near 100km around the volcano was destroyed harmful gases have created a non-living situation for several weeks. Researches say that the movement of tectonic plates due to the earthquake was the reason behind this volcanic eruption. Before this Taal Volcano has erupted 43 years back.

China on the other hand have experienced 21 large-scale floods in 2020.

Some the protests grabbed the headline in news, like Black Lives Matter in almost alover the world, Beirut Protest in Lebanon, Farmers Bill protest in India, Citizenship Amendment Bill protest in India, Police security bill protests in France, Racial equality protests in New Zealand etc.

In May 2020 Amphan hit the coastal areas of WestBengal & Bangladesh, which has destroyed a number of facilities in WestBengal & Bangladesh like Telephone Towers, Roads, Buildings, Power supply stations, and 72 people reportedly died due to this super cyclone. On the other hand, a record-breaking Hurricane in the US caused damages worth $60bn.

On the magnitude of 6+ in different locations in the world like the Alaska Peninsula, the Caribbean region, Kuril Islands, Aegean Sea, Papua New Guinea, etc, the earthquakes have damaged lots of property and a number of people died. This is unusual than in previous years.

Apart from all these, there were award ceremonies, famous movies, players were awarded, ISRO launches PSLV-C50/CMS-01, SpaceX’s first successful human launch, Mental Health become a serious point to notice, People have understood the importance of nature, etc.
