On 20th January Ola announced that it will work with Siemens to develop India’s most advanced EV manufacturing hub in Tamil Nadu, Chennai.
Ola & Siemens
These are the official statements of the CEO’s, both the companies
Bhavish Aggarwal, chairman, and group CEO, Ola told HT Mint, “This will be our global hub and will set a benchmark in quality, scale, and efficiency, demonstrating India’s capability to build world-class cutting edge products. We look forward to bringing this factory online in the coming months and putting our products in the hands of customers.”
Sunil Mathur, MD & CEO, Siemens India, said, “We are proud to contribute to Ola’s vision of creating a factory of the future using our automation and digitalization expertise to ensuring the highest levels of productivity and quality while enabling an agile and flexible production process,”
About India’s most advanced EV manufacturing hub
The factory will produce electric scooters. We all know that we have to rely on non-renewable resources in the future, and so it has started. According to a report, this factory may create almost 10,000 jobs in India. The manufacturing hub will be situated in the southern part of Tamil Nadu, Chennai. Ola already signed a 2,400-crore-deal with the Tamil Nadu government to set up their first factory in the state. Under the partnership with Siemens, Ola will have access to Siemens’ integrated Digital Twin design and manufacturing solutions to digitalize and validate product and production ahead of actual operations.
With Siemens’s automation technology India’s most advanced EV manufacturing hub will be built on the Industry 4.0 principles, around 5,000 robots will be working to automate most of the manufacturing and will initially have a production capacity of 2 million units annually. A statement says “The factory will be artificial intelligence-powered with Ola’s proprietary AI engine and tech stack deeply integrated into every aspect of the manufacturing process, continuously self-learning and optimizing every aspect of the manufacturing process,”
About the OLA Scooter
Ola has already acquired Etergo BV OEM in 2020, and in CES Ola has also showcased their design, which also won several awards. There will be no such feature confirmed or officially announced but it will offer a unique removable banana battery, which is easy to carry and can be charged anywhere as well as intelligent software that elevates the entire consumer experience of owning a scooter.
There are some companies, like Mahindra, Tata, Electra EV, Altigreen Propulsion, etc, in the EV industry which may become a giant in the future and will also finish India’s dependency on importing EV’s from other countries. As Nitin Gadkari said before, Minister for Road Transport & Highways, “India would become the world’s largest electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing hub in the next five years.” Thanks for Reading.
