In the world of User Interfaces offered in Android by various companies, OxygenOS has gained a sweet spot in people’s minds over time. Other than that We have One UI for Samsung, Color OS for Oppo, FuntouchOS for Vivo & iQOO, realme UI for Realme, Stock Android for Motorola, Nokia, MIUI for Xiaomi devices, and so on. User Interface is something with which a user is deeply connected, and which actually makes a Xiaomi phone Xiaomi, A Samsung phone Samsung, and a OnePlus phone a OnePlus phone.

And after the stock android, OxygenOS had a legacy, that allows OnePlus devices to be different from other android devices. People see OnePlus as a premium option in Android.

So, what makes OxygenOS different from other OS?

It is a thin layer on the top of the “Stock Android”, a stock android experience with some extra features, that’s all. Yes, it is this simple. No unwanted pre-installed application, no bloatware, no huge customization, no in-app ad. And it has some magic, it feels very smooth even at 60 fps, in the previous versions OnePlus 5, 7, etc. In short, the simplified experience made OxygenOS unique from others.

Why OxygenOS has disappeared?

OnePlus 2.0, OxygenOS 12 anotherwhy

OnePlus previously announced that they are shutting the R&D of Oxygen OS and are integrating with Oppo’s Color OS. OnePlus called it OxygenOS 2.0. They also stated in their forum that “The integration will be fully completed together with the next major Android update in 2022.” And it’s not only that the code base is the same for Oxygen OS 12 and Color OS 12, with Oxygen OS 12 we will see many visible changes.

OnePlus Nord 2 recently launched with Oxygen OS 11.3.A.10, which has a few glances of Color OS already, in the settings, camera application, many more.

And, Thus OxygenOS disappeared.

Similarities of OxygenOS 12 & ColorOS 12

Similarities of OxygenOS 12 & ColorOS 12 Anotherwhy
  • Launcher Application: The default System Launcher of Oxygen OS 12 and Color OS 12 is same. OxygenOS 12 is using Color OS 12 system launcher, which is sad, the whole interface is gone, the OxygenOS is gone.
  • Default Applications: The gallery application, File manager application, Camera, settings, every app in Oxygen OS 12 is same as Color OS 12.

the beta update is currently rolling on the flagships, in the OnePlus 9 and 9 pros.

A few air left in the new beta update

The trademarks feature like, the Zen Mode, the Always-on display feature, the widget shelf, the Canvas AOD option in wallpaper, Work balance life 2.0, these all are still the same as the OxygenOS, and the rest is changed.

What’s the Problem with ColorOS 12?

No, there is no problem with Color OS, even it is getting better with the new updates. But now both the companies are offering the same UI. There’s no identity left to OxygenOS anymore, and at least it gives a relief that this could be the actual interface of the new unified OS.

Will it effect the OnePlus users?

OnePlus users affected by the OxygenOS change Anotherwhy

It already affected a lot of OnePlus users, and they are not happy with the change which is taking place. I am not a hardcore OnePlus user, I previously used the OnePlus 7T, OnePlus 8, currently, I am using OnePlus Nord 2, there is a little different but yes, it still has.

OnePlus is always known by the term “Fast and Smooth”, their fame in this tech industry is distinguished by their OS. And other than that moreover, every android flagship is offering the same hardware, with their own touch. Now they are eliminating their main USP.

And from the official OnePlus forum, I came to know that, users with OnePlus 8, OnePlus 9R 5G, OnePlus 8 Pro, OnePlus 8T, OnePlus 7 Pro, OnePlus 7, OnePlus 7T, OnePlus 7T Pro, Nord 2 5G, Nord 1 and Nord CE 5G will also receive the Android 12-based OxygenOS 12 (open beta) in future. And OnePlus will first introduce the integrated OS with the launch of their next flagship series in 2022 ( OnePlus 10 ).

It’s Okay

The forum description says: “you can download and flash OxygenOS right to your OnePlus One”

If OxygenOS was a person, he or she will be like, ” I was first introduced in Oneplus one as Oxygen OS 1.0.0. ( Android 5.0.2 ) and it was a pleasure to be in OnePlus devices, I was being managed by the team, and people used to know me, praise me for my performance in the industry. It’s hard to believe that with the newer versions I will not be the same as my old versions. It’s okay, we know as change is the only constant. I will still remain alive in people’s hearts forever. My heartily greet to OxygenOS 12, see ya in the memories, my friends. “

I used to recommend OnePlus devices to my friends and family. All of these is not just that OxygenOS 12 is a bad OS, it is just that it is not the same anymore. I will talk about more changes in the future, stay tuned for that. Curious to know your point of view, do share in the comments. Check out the blog section too. Thanks for Reading. Peace.
