Qualcomm, today announced this ARM’s Cortex-A77 based Snapdragon 870 5G chipset. This Qualcomm chipset will power the 2021 upper mid-range smartphones because the top of the line chipset by Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 is already announced last year.

Snapdragon 870 5G Connectivity
The modem used in Snapdragon 870 5G is the Snapdragon X55 5G Modem-RF System to support mmWave and Sub-6 GHz 5G. The modem supports Standalone & non-standalone modes. This modem will allow one to stream desktop-quality content right on your mobile device, upload or download in a flash, and communicate with friends (near or far) in real-time.

The Snapdragon 870 5G SoC is based on the 7nm process. It is the same Snapdragon 865+ chip by Qualcomm which is maxed out up to 3.2GHz. This chip is based on the Kryo 585 CPU which has 1x Cortex-A77 @ 3.2 GHz, 3x Cortex-A77 cores & 4x Cortex-A55 cores. The Adreno 650 GPU supports a display driver up to 144Hz @ 1080p or 60Hz @ 4K and gives you long-lasting speed, faster graphics rendering, etc. Snapdragon 870 5G is Wi-Fi 6 ready and supports Bluetooth 5.2, talking about charging technology it supports Quick Charge 4+ technology. The only thing Snapdragon 870 5G lacks is the FastConnect 6900 connectivity suite which already seen in the 865 Plus.
The cameras having this chipset will support 4K video capture @ 120 FPS, and 8K video capture @ 30 FPS. One can capture Slow-motion videos up to 960 FPS @ 720p.
This chipset can allow displays that are 4K @ 60Hz and also QHD+ @ 144Hz. The displays will support HDR10+ & HDR10. In terms of Audio output, Qualcomm Aqstic audio codec makes content more immersive with rich, clear audio.
